OUR

The Sickle Cell Disease Association of Canada (SCDAC) has implemented a formal strategic planning process to establish a simple and measurable path to guide SCDAC and its member organizations for programming and governance purposes.

AAFC serves Canadians at the national, provincial, and regional levels. The organization currently has four founding members, also known as provincial chapters, affiliate members and ordinary members. Some provincial chapters also have additional structures recognized as regions.

Who are we serving?

People with sickle cell disease
Family members (immediate and extended) and friends of patients with this disease
Health care providers – medical and allied health care professionals
Community representatives – daycare providers, educators, employers and others
People living with sickle cell disease and their families

Our mandate

To raise public awareness and promote improved diagnosis and treatment of sickle cell disease and its complications as follows:

Support basic, translational and clinical research related to sickle cell disease
Supporting the development and implementation of standard of care guidelines:
Accreditation of comprehensive care centers
Support the development and maintenance of a Canadian Sickle Cell Patient Registry,
and the dissemination of best practices for improving the quality of life of patients with sickle cell disease
Raising awareness about sickle cell disease
Promoting universal newborn screening for sickle cell disease in Canada
Mobilize public support to ensure that people with sickle cell disease have access to adequate care
Provide educational resources for people with sickle cell disease, carriers and their families.
Collaborate with other Canadian and international Sickle Cell groups, various levels of government including federal, provincial, and territorial jurisdictions as well as hospitals and clinics, health care professionals and other stakeholder groups.

Mission and vision of SCDAC

The Sickle Cell Disease Association of Canada (SCDAC) established in 2012, is committed to raising awareness of sickle cell disease by improving methods of identification, diagnosis and treatment. to improve the quality of life of those affected and their families.

To achieve its mission, AAFC/SCDAC supports the development and growth of its member organizations in Canada and facilitates their collaborative efforts.

SCDAC also encourages the coordinated development of clinical services and research initiatives related to the treatment of sickle cell disease and efforts to find a cure. We believe it is essential to attract clinical and research specialists to undertake and further research on sickle cell disease in Canadian universities and health care institutions, and we also support these initiatives.
